No one doubts the importance of the competent design of each room in an apartment or in your own house. A modern bathroom in visual perception should not be inferior to any other room either. It does not have to be the pinnacle of design art, but the right materials, furniture, and accessories will help you relax and feel truly at home. One of the most important elements in a bathroom renovation is the mixer.
Types of bathroom faucets by type of connection
Despite the similarity in their purpose, mixers are distinguished by the material from which they are made, the way they are mounted in the bathroom renovation, and, of course, by their appearance. Depending on the design, the following types of bathroom faucets for bathroom renovation are distinguished :
- external wall – mounted on pipes protruding from the wall;
- internal wall – the body is recessed into the wall, and the visible part is limited only by pivoting levers and a gander;
- mortise – mounted in the body of the sink or bathtub, while the shower hose can be retractable;
- floor – as the name implies, it is mounted on the bathroom floor for bathroom renovation.
- Wall-mounted outdoor mixers
The design of modern mixers is much more interesting than those that were installed in the baths of Soviet new buildings. In addition to the appearance, there was also a choice according to the type of water flow control. There are only two of them:
- with rotary valve;
- with a control lever.
Indoor wall mixers
Types of bathroom faucets for bathroom renovation with a shower (photo above), which are built into the wall, require more complex installation, although they look very impressive. After their installation, only the control element and the gander protrude from the wall.
Built-in faucets offer a more complicated procedure for replacing the cartridge in the event of a breakdown. Therefore, when choosing a mixer of this type, pay attention to the quality of the product. The most durable cartridges are ceramic.
Mortise bathroom faucets
Mortise types of bath mixers for bathroom renovation are no less popular. Some of them can be mounted directly on the sink, in the hole allocated for this purpose. Similar mixers are also built into a countertop with two separate washbasins.
Mortise mixers are distinguished by a wide variety of design solutions and can be installed in any bathroom renovation where this type of connection is provided.
Floor types of mixers
Among all types of bathroom faucets for bathroom renovation, floor-standing ones are the least popular. Their use is justified in interiors with appropriate stylistics (for example, high-tech). The faucet stand is anchored to the floor and a long faucet is directed into the bathroom renovation. Installation of such a mixer involves laying hidden wiring under the bathroom renovation floor. The variety of floor mixers allows you to realize the most daring design ideas.
What are the types of bath mixers by control method?
Among all the parameters by which mixers are selected, one of the most important is the type of control. The convenience of using the mixer largely depends on this (due to the prevailing habits and preferences). Someone is accustomed to classic valves as a control mechanism, while someone is interested in modernist style mixers.
Until now, many users do not recognize any other types of mixers, except for two-valve ones. With their help, it is really easy to regulate the temperature regime with a simple turn of the valve. By the type of mechanism, such mixers are divided into:
The disadvantage of mixers with a worm-type mechanism is the short service life of the rubber gaskets in the valve box. As a result, a leak appears, which, however, can be easily eliminated by simply replacing the gasket. You can replace consumables in such a mixer without the involvement of a professional plumber. But if you do not want to constantly revive the normal operation of the mixer, then take a closer look at models with a ceramic mechanism.
Today it is perhaps the most popular type of bathroom faucet for bathroom renovation. It is famous for its ease of use and long service life (as opposed to valve ones). The flow rate and water temperature are regulated by one lever, which can be made of metal or plastic.
According to the principle of the built-in mechanism, such mixers are made on a model with a cartridge (usually ceramic) and a ball mechanism. Cartridges combine two streams of water into one, mixing them in a given proportion. Over time, the cartridge may wear out. This is directly related to the quality of the water (solids build up on the ceramic element creates friction, gradually wearing out the cartridge).
Lever-type mixers have a separate elbow look. In such models, the control handle has a special shape, similar to a lever, with which the water flow is regulated. In Soviet times, this type of mixer was used in medical institutions, since it involves minimal hand contact with the surface of the body. Elbow faucets are popular nowadays, more often in a bathroom renovation.
They can be equipped with a bottom valve. The presence of an aerator in the kit allows you to use the mixer with maximum comfort. The main element of such a mixer, as in other varieties, is the cartridge (or ball mechanism). Repairing such mixers (replacing a cartridge or ball mechanism) will not be difficult and is not much different from a similar procedure in standard single-lever models.
Contactless (touch mixer)
The most technologically advanced type of mixers, without a doubt, can be called touch-sensitive models, controlled in a non-contact way. In such models, an infrared sensor is built-in, which is triggered by hands brought to the gander. The water flow level and temperature are set by means of a screw “disguised” in the mixer body. The top of manufacturability is shown by models with an automatic temperature control mode (the mixer reacts to the position of hands in space).
It is impossible not to mention the thermostatic mixers, the principle of which is based on the supply of water at a temperature clearly set by the user. In it, as in other types of bathroom faucet renovation, two streams of water are mixed into one and fed into the gander. When hot or cold water is turned off, the flow will be blocked. This will avoid sudden changes in the supply water temperature. Depending on the model, the temperature level is set by a mechanical switch or via an electronic display.
